Engaging Our Wild
As part of its ongoing support for cultural outreach and women’s empowerment through artistic projects, The Arete Fund (www.aretefund.net) and the Wild Ladies will host a 3-day art retreat at the Tittle Lake House in Karnack, Texas for a small (8-10) cohort of women.
In a primordial landscape rich in history, birdsong, and the wilder gifts of Mother Nature, we will explore the idea of wildness relative to its role in creativity and living well, that is, in harmony with the self and doing with authenticity, boldness and passion, things both creative and mundane. To be wild is to seek an edge beyond which the familiar or tame gives way to the forceful tug of the imagination or the knowing heart, and we are led quite naturally beyond ourselves and the territory that we know to become our explorer ourselves and seek expression, either as creative artists or creator women, for that truth which may shape-shift into art for the artist, or convey the encouragement for humanity overall - the gift of creator women from the beginning of time.
Our Goal
The Caddo Wild Art Retreat will bring together influential women who are willing to set aside for a time the worlds that we, as women, juggle, and hold as precious the instinct and intuition that finds expression in art and in the art that each of us can make with our lives.
Open to women of all ages, we invite those who desire creative replenishment, rest, and inspiration; and we respectfully hope that taken in combination with the art-making, delicious and healthful food, the personal interactions, and the wild, wild and beautiful nature all around, we are able to impart to one another added strength so that each of us may impact the world with our respective gifts and callings going forward. Given that all women are creators, it is by means of exercises in creativity for artist and non-artist alike, that we mean to exit the familiar terrain of our daily lives only to return home to ourselves, and find within, a brave, wild woman, waiting.
